3 Features to Add When Getting a Custom Island for Your Kitchen

Living in a home with a huge kitchen is something that you may enjoy and appreciate because you won't have to worry about feeling cluttered while cooking. However, despite its size, you might feel that the kitchen is lacking in functionality when most of the space is not being used.

If you know that building a custom island in your kitchen remodel will help you fill in the space and improve the kitchen in several ways, you should think about what features to prioritize with this addition.

Stovetop

When your stovetop is located against one of the kitchen walls with cabinets above and below, you may find that you could easily improve the cooking experience by moving the stovetop to the island. Putting the stovetop in an open space where the island is located will prevent you from having to worry about steam causing cabinet damage and liquid splashes hitting the wall.

Another thing that you can look forward to when moving the stovetop is better lighting. While you can use the light on a range hood and turn on the overhead light in the kitchen, you will find that task lighting above the island will give you optimal lighting while cooking on the stovetop.

Sink

If you have a decent-sized sink in your large kitchen, you may not have a problem putting a lot of dishes inside and also having room to wash your hands or rinse foods. But, you may know that separating the tasks of cleaning dishes and cooking food will lead to a better cooking experience.

Installing a sink with the custom island is an excellent idea, but you should not worry about adding one that is as large as the original one. You just want to provide your family with a sink where everyone can wash their hands and wash rice, fruit, and vegetables that may need rinsing.

Cabinetry

When you work with professionals to make plans for the island, you will need to put something beneath the countertop. This is where you will want to add lots of cabinetry in the form of standard cabinets or even open shelving if you are more interested in easy access and visibility.

If you want to add a seating area with the island, you can make sure that remodelers do not add cabinets to this side to avoid a situation in which the cabinets get in the way of sitting down.

Adding a custom kitchen island with these things in mind will help you enjoy a great outcome.
