Don't Forget To Include Storage In Your Bathroom Design
You've selected the perfect toilet, measured the distance between your wall and the shower head, and chosen a faucet that you love. These are all important elements of the bathroom remodeling process, but there is another element to make sure you do not forget. Plan for storage. You can really never have too much storage in a bathroom, but with limited space to work with, you really do need to plan for that storage from the start. The following are some great ways to incorporate more storage when remodeling your bathroom.
Include Cubbies and Nooks in Your Shower
The more room there is to store shampoo, soap, and other products in your actual shower, the less of these products you'll have to store in outside drawers and cabinets. So, ask your bathroom remodeling contractor to include several nooks or cubbies in your shower. One on the wall under the shower head and another large one on the long shower wall should be sufficient.
Add Shelves Over the Toilet
The wall space over a toilet is often wasted space. Instead of hanging a picture there, have your remodeling team include some shelving. Two or three shelves that are about as wide as your toilet will give you a good place to store washcloths, an extra roll of toilet paper, and maybe even a candle and some air freshener.
Build a Cabinet Into the Wall
Having a narrow cabinet built between your wall joists is another fun option. The door will sit flush with your wall, so it won't take up that much floor space in your bathroom. You can even include two or three wall-space cabinets if your bathroom layout allows for it. These can be good places to store rolled-up towels, toiletries, and cleaning products.
Choose a Larger Vanity
Sometimes people tend towards smaller vanities because they think they look more elegant. But if you need space for storage, choosing a bigger vanity is always better. Look for one with some more open shelving instead of so many drawers. This way, you will be able to fit larger items, like tall shampoo bottles, inside.
If you design your bathroom with more storage, you won't regret it. Storage space comes in so handy and often makes it easier to reach the items you need while in your bathroom. Talk to your remodeling contractor about these ideas to get their professional input.
